The role
Coventry City Council is seeking to appoint a Project Officer on a fixed term contract to oversee the delivery of the Coventry City Centre Heritage Action Zone (HAZ). The post holder will be an advocate for harnessing the opportunities offered by Coventry’s heritage in the regeneration of the City, supporting the Heritage Action Zone’s mission to ‘Transform Coventry Through Heritage’. They will coordinate and contribute to the delivery of the series of projects outlined in the HAZ Delivery Plan and assist the Council and its partners to achieve their objectives to conserve and repurpose historic buildings to benefit the City’s cultural offer. The HAZ programme is scheduled to run until March 31st 2022 with the role mirroring this timeline.

You’ll need:
• To have a degree or equivalent in a subject relevant to the conservation of the historic environment;
• Experience of project management within a related context;
• Membership of a relevant professional body;
• Experience of working in partnerships including with statutory bodies, local authorities and the voluntary sector;
• To produce and manage projects, presentations, reports and analysis relating to the Historic Environment;
• To manage heavy workloads as part of specified work programmes and timetables, including maintaining a focus on delivery and quality;
• An ability to develop effective relationships with partner organisations to help deliver crosscutting projects;
• Competence in IT packages, Microsoft Office and GIS

About us
The successful candidate will work as part of the Council’s Planning and Housing Policy team, alongside other specialist disciplines including conservation, archaeology, design and tree protection. We are a multi-skilled service who are fully committed to working together to plan a positive future for our great city.

Your role within the service will be to support the delivery of the City Centres Heritage Action Zone Programme, which in turn will help deliver elements of the city’s emerging Local Plan and city Centre Area Action Plan, support the continued evolution of the Historic Environment Record and help deliver a host of other corporate priorities. You will be involved in supporting Coventry’s City of Culture bid 2021 and work with a host of project partners including the Historic Coventry Trust, Coventry University, Coventry Cathedral and Historic England.

The City Councils ongoing work with Historic England to help ‘Transform Coventry through Heritage’ has already been recognised as ‘exemplar’ and this post will help continue this working relationship.

You should be an effective and motivated individual, comfortable working cross-departmentally, with partners, external agencies and with Elected Members.
