Food & Beverage Supervisor

Site based

37 hours per week

based on a 5-day rota including weekends and evenings subject to theatre programming & events

Permanent contract

Set in the beautiful county of Staffordshire, Tamworth is a vibrant town with rich heritage.  Located in the centre of Britain, with a growing population of over 77,000 people, Tamworth is a borough with much to be proud of.  Our transport links, unique shopping experience, developing town centre, green spaces, leisure offer, including our cultural and wide-ranging outdoor events programme, as well as our heritage buildings, all help make it a great place to live, work, study, and visit.

In addition to all that Tamworth already has to offer, exciting times are ahead as we embark on a period of significant transformation.  Multi-million-pound projects, such as the Future High Street Fund development will help to bring about lasting change and improvements in the future.  This will assist with our mission to restore Tamworth town centre as the beating heart of the community, a place that people want to visit, rather than a place they have to visit.

Working for Tamworth Borough Council is more than just a job, it’s about making life better for the people who live and work in the Borough. We recognise that everybody who works at Tamworth Borough Council is key to successfully delivering its aims and objectives.  We can’t do this without skilled and ambitious workforce working in a positive environment empowered to do their best.

An opportunity has arisen to join the Arts and Events team at an exciting time. We are looking for an experienced Food & Beverage Supervisor to oversee and be responsible for the day to day running of the food & beverage operation for The Tamworth Assembly Rooms. You will be hands on, working alongside a team of direct reports including the food service team & bar staff.

The Assembly Rooms in Tamworth underwent a multi-million-pound refurbishment to totally transform the 130-year-old building, resulting in a venue that has gone from strength to strength and establishing itself as a major entertainment venue in the local area and the regional touring circuit. The refurbishment gave Tamworth a new modern theatre as well as a new kitchen with state-of-the-art equipment, café and event space for community/corporate hire.

With a proven record of success in a similar position, and first-class cooking, kitchen & hospitality experience controlling food and beverage stocks, alongside delivering training, and managing & motivating staff, you must have a passion for customer service, an outgoing personality and be able to take on new challenges. The successful candidate will be required to:

  • ensure the efficient running of the day-time Claymore Café, Theatre Bars, functions and events
  • supervise the catering team and take responsibility for food/bar ordering, storage, preparation, production, cooking and service to the Claymore Café Lounge, theatre hospitality, council venues and one-off outside events
  • work collaboratively with the food & beverage assistants, Theatre Manger and events team in the delivery of the food and beverage offer in the Cafés and Theatre Bars, both in and outside of performance times

With a wide-ranging theatrical programme and diverse clientele, the food & beverage product range and service will need to be tailored to match the shows and audience profile. You will also need an understanding of corporate hospitality & special events.

You will have responsibility for cashing handling, standards of service, stock control and ordering.  This will include due diligence and procedures that are followed on site.

You will be an excellent communicator, building effective and constructive relationships and be happy to work as part of a team.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A proven working knowledge of kitchens, hospitality, bars and events
  • The ability to cope under pressure, in a calm and efficient manner, to set deadlines
  • Experience of high-volume café/bar operations and cash control
  • Good interpersonal skills with both kitchen, front of house staff and management
  • A positive approach to customer service
  • Word, Excel and Outlook IT skills to basic level
  • The ability to spot commercial opportunities and show how they can be achieved
  • The confidence to develop and manage relationships with internal and external customers
  • Ability to create and produce a daily lunch F&B offer
  • Food & Hygiene to minimum Level 3
  • Understanding of food and beverage H&S legislation

So if you are ready for a challenge, love working with people and can help create exciting events, then this is the role for you.

We have an extensive benefits package including flexible working, a non-contributory health scheme, Local Government pension scheme, generous holiday entitlement, and payment of professional fees (where applicable), for further details please refer to the application information document on our website.
