Warwickshire County Council's Street Lighting Section is a small team that manage 55,000 street lights and illuminated traffic signs and bollards countywide. The key driver within the team is to reduce costs through the specification of equipment that has minimal electricity consumption and maintenance requirement over the course of its working life.

The Role

The Postholder will be required to lead on all projects that require a street lighting input and/or electricity connections on the Highway. This will include carrying out designs and/or technical approval for Section 38/278 schemes; delivery of street lighting projects through the maintenance contractor that are specified by colleagues in Traffic and Road Safety; any other street lighting projects that arise. From time to time there will be a need for the Postholder to be involved with maintenance aspects of street lighting through the maintenance contractor. The Postholder will be required to be part of the Street Lighting out of office rota, for which an additional payment of £2,068 per annum is made.

Key Requirements

The Postholder will have at least two years experience of carrying out street lighting designs and/or projects that comply with BS5489, and be proficient in the use of Lighting Reality and CAD. A relevant electrical qualification is essential, and completion of the ILP Lighting Technology Diploma would be desirable. The Postholder will be able to work with minimal supervision, and be comfortable in dealing the majority of queries that arise from their work. The Postholder should have, or be working towards, MILP and Eng.Tech as a minimum.
