Salary: G12 £50,512 - £56,239 per annum

Contract: Fixed term for two years

Walsall Council has ambitions to achieve Net Zero by 2041 in line with the West Midlands Combined Authority target. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to manage our domestic retrofit service to help drive the borough towards a sustainable future.

In this key role, you'll join our dedicated team as a Retrofit Project Manager. You'll play a leading role in developing and implementing projects within the Domestic Energy Efficiency team, with a particular focus on overseeing and coordinating the development and delivery of fuel poverty reduction initiatives across the borough.

Please note this role is being offered as a 2-year fixed term contract with the possibility of an extension depending on funding availability.

This specialist role will include managing a small team of staff to provide high-quality energy advice and ensure that retrofit work delivered by the council is safe, of high quality and on budget.

Qualifications and skills you will bring to the role
  • Knowledge of retrofit standards (e.g. PAS2035, PAS2038, PAS 2030)
  • Technical understanding of retrofit particulars (e.g. thermal performance (modelled and actual), EPC certificates, energy efficiency regulations, building regulations, etc.)
  • Knowledge of funding schemes and requirements e.g. SHDF, PSDS, LADS, HUG
  • Level 2 Understanding Domestic Retrofit
  • Hold a relevant construction or housing related degree, HND level qualification or substantial equivalent proven experience
  • Holding or working towards MRICS or MCIOB

Experience you will bring to the role
  • Experience in retrofit project delivery with a proactive attitude toward managing project timescales and potentially tight deadlines
  • Demonstrable knowledge of JCT / NEC construction contract management
  • Excellent client facing skills, with the ability to understand and empathise
  • Organised project management approach
  • Strong analytical skills, you’re not afraid to challenge the status quo and hold people and teams to account
  • A team player - take accountability for your work, sharing your lessons learnt and wins with the wider team

What we offer you

In addition to being a great place to work, we can offer the following benefits in return.
  • 29 leave days (plus an additional 5 days after 5 years of continuous local authority service)
  • 9 concessionary days
  • 12 days (maximum) annual flexible working leave
  • Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Childcare voucher scheme
  • Salary of £50,512 - £56,239 per annum (pay award pending)
