Birmingham City Council is the largest local authority social landlord in Europe, with a stock profile of just under 60,000 properties. As a member of the Commercial and Contract Management Team, within the Asset Management Division, you will lead a team of Quantity Surveyors to assist and support them in fulfilling the Quantity Surveyor function, responsible for assessing and scrutinising our supply chains costs across a range of construction and maintenance projects, seeking to ensure costs are fair, reasonable and representative of the works entailed and when compared to sector benchmarks.

We have embarked on a change journey to become a high performing social landlord.  We recently launched an ambitious plan to invest between approx. £220m in our housing stock each year for the next seven years. Our strategic priority is to improve the condition and quality of our homes for our residents, ensuring they are warm, safe, and sustainable for the years to come.  

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will lead your team in providing expert knowledge and advice to enable the Council to deliver the Quantity Surveyor function to the Councils Asset Management Division, focused on repairs & maintenance, compliance, building safety and planned maintenance services and capital works, including major construction projects.  You will play a pivotal part in the Councils approach to major construction projects, working with your team and across teams to inform the design, specification, cost and programme planning and onsite evaluation of works and measures undertaken by our construction partners.  You will oversee your team to provide accurate and timely financial information to meet the needs of Asset Management Division and embed an audit framework to enable Quantity Surveyors to carry out financial audits of contractors costs and accounts.  At all times you’ll be able to prove value for money and embed value engineering principles, spending wisely.
