Public Health Project Officer - Ref: SS03624
  • Salary: £31,364 - £35,745 pro rata to hours worked
  • Contract: 2 Years Fixed Term, 30 hrs per week

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who is passionate about developing a career in public health and has experience implementing projects and programmes promoting health and wellbeing. Walsall Council is an ambitious and forward-looking Metropolitan Borough Council with a strong focus on wellbeing.

About the Role

The purpose of the role is to provide a project management function within Public Health Mental Health and promote, coordinate and deliver relevant and appropriate activity across Walsall communities. It includes supporting the delivery of the borough's Mental Wellbeing Strategy. It contributes to the central aim of the Public Health Service, which is to protect and improve residents' health, improve life expectancy, and reduce health inequalities.

The role includes:
  • Working with people from various organisations, including the public, voluntary, and private sectors.
  • Supporting project and contract coordination and management.
  • Working with individuals, groups, communities and organisations to influence and improve population health.
  • Contributing to developing local health improvement programmes, including monitoring and evaluation.
  • Promoting and raising the profile of Public Health interventions
  • Delivering presentations and contributing to developing publications and reports

About You

We want to hear from you if you:
  • Have a commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of Walsall residents, especially those at high risk of poor mental health outcomes.
  • Are an experienced skilled Public Health practitioner
  • Are a competent project manager who can deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Are an effective communicator and organiser skilled in administration and marketing,
  • Are an effective analyser and innovative problem solver
  • Are flexible and adaptable and can cope with changing demands and priorities.
  • Are skilled in and experienced working with a diverse range of multi-agency partners, stakeholders and communities to promote mental health literacy and suicide prevention.

The post offers flexible working in a supportive and collaborative team environment.

An enhanced DBS check (without barred list check) is required for this post.

The post-holder will support work across the geographical area of Walsall and will be expected to travel across Walsall.
