Located within the heart of the Marches, the historic border countryside where England meets Wales, Herefordshire is one of the most rural counties in England. Beautiful, unspoilt countryside, two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, historic parklands, the cathedral city of Hereford and attractive market towns, provide an excellent quality of life. Herefordshire Council has been delivering Natural Flood Management (NFM) in the county since 2018 and so this is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, early career entrant to learn and develop their skills and expertise in flood risk management within local government.
As a graduate NFM Officer you will be well supported by the NFM Project Officer and Team Manager. Your main duties will include helping:
  • Identify, plan, implement and monitor NFM measures that contribute towards alleviating flood risk;
  • Embed NFM principles into ‘day-to-day’ working practices;
  • Ensure that NFM interventions are designed and installed in accordance with best practice and that an effective monitoring and evaluation network is established; and
  • Support the delivery of NFM Construction Grants to landowners to implement NFM.
For more information about the project which runs until 2027, see www.herefordshire.gov.uk/nfm. If you would like an informal discussion about this opportunity, please email: nfm@herefordshire.gov.uk.
