We are looking for a Deputy Headteacher to join our senior leadership team to secure outstanding outcomes for all pupils at Allens Croft Nursery School. We pride ourselves on our creative and holistic approach to pre-nursery and nursery education. Our approach empowers children to make their own choices and helps them to be self-motivated individuals.

Allens Croft Nursery School is clustered with Shenley Fields Nursery School, both settings sharing an Executive Headteacher. Cluster leaders work collaboratively to provide high standards of leadership across the 2 schools as well as the day to day leadership of a single school. The Deputy Headteacher will promote and support the vision and direction of the Federation of Maintained Nursery School.

The Birmingham Federation of Maintained Nursery schools is made up of 9 Local Authority Maintained Nursery Schools delivering inclusive high-quality early education and care to children aged 0-5 years across Birmingham.

We have a vibrant and enthusiastic staff of qualified teachers, teaching assistants, nursery officers, play workers, administrators and other support staff who make up our large team.

As well as exceptional and inclusive provision for children and families, we are committed to professional development, and provide opportunities for learning and collaboration across the cluster of 2 schools and the wider Federation.

Our settings are culturally diverse with a large number of languages spoken. We have a reputation for supporting children with a range of complex special educational needs and disabilities, as well as support for families who may have additional challenges in their lives.

Early Years education is undergoing ongoing change and challenge so applicants need to not only be an outstanding teacher and leader but also flexible, resilient and able to contribute innovative ideas.

If you are interested in this challenge, with the support of both an experienced team of leaders across the Federation and an experienced team of staff at Allens Croft Nursery School, we would like to hear from you. Visits to the school are most welcome with prior arrangement.

The Council is a fantastic place to work. You will find an organisation that is both challenging and supportive; with a leadership impatiently adventurous in its pursuit of excellence.

There is a clear vision which is ensuring that the Council is working for communities today and building for tomorrow, we focus our resources on five key priorities:

  • A Prosperous Birmingham: through a focus on inclusive economic growth, tackling unemployment, attracting inward investment, and maximising the benefits of the Commonwealth Games.
  • An Inclusive Birmingham: through a focus on tackling poverty and inequality, empowering citizens, promoting diversity and civic pride, and supporting and enabling all children and young people to thrive.
  • A Safe Birmingham: through a focus on making the city safer, safeguarding vulnerable citizens, increasing affordable housing, and tackling homelessness.
  • A Healthy Birmingham: through a focus on tackling health inequalities, encouraging physical activity and healthy living, supporting mental health, and improving outcomes for adults with disabilities and older people.
  • A Green Birmingham: through a focus on street cleanliness, improving air quality, continuing the route to net zero, and becoming a city of nature.

We see the Council’s role as providing strategic leadership – that’s being able to visualise a new future for the city and equipping others to share our vision. We want to ensure the provision of services for all, so we can support those least able to support themselves by working with partners and putting citizens and neighbourhoods at the heart of our decision-making.

We are always looking for people who put the customer at the centre of their approach, with a commitment to excellence to help us achieve our vision.  We will support you to develop and thrive in your role, building a pathway for long-term success, with lots of development opportunities, such as apprenticeships.

In return, we offer you excellent terms and conditions, generous annual leave, a great pension scheme, well-being support, annual travel passes and discounts at a number of city centre establishments.
