About The Role
Contract: Fixed Term 3 years
Salary: HC11 range £48,474 - £52,859
Hours: 37
Location: Plough Lane and/or HARC Hereford. Currently hybrid working in line with council policy.
Closing Date: 16/09/2024
Located at the heart of the Marches, the historic border countryside where England meets Wales, Herefordshire is one of the most rural counties in England. Beautiful, unspoilt countryside, two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, historic parklands, heritage assets, the cathedral city of Hereford and attractive market towns provide an excellent quality of life.
This exciting position is to lead and manage the multiple award winning Built & Natural environment service, to develop ambitious new policies and strategies, support the planning service as a statutory consultee and to deliver numerous projects to protect and enhance Herefordshire's beautiful environment.
Encompassing a strong range of environmental specialisms including the natural environment (trees, ecology, landscape and open spaces), the built environment (building conservation, archaeology and historic records), the service will help to ensure sustainable development across the County and also as the accountable body for the Wye Valley National Landscapes and the Herefordshire Biological Records Centre.
This post will also act as the lead officer for a variety of key new policies and projects whilst also supporting the Council's ambitious climate and ecological emergency commitments through close partnership working with other departments and numerous partners including the Local Nature Partnership and the Climate & Nature Partnership.
Reporting to the Head of Environment, Climate Emergency & Waste, the post will manage 24 staff across multiple teams.
