Walsall Council fleet services is seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our unique and dynamic team of highly motivated professionals who work collaboratively to ensure the operations comply with legislative requirements.
The department works to tight timescales and often statutory deadlines and therefore experience of working within a highly pressured responsive service is a must. The department plays an integral part of the Council’s operations ensuring legal compliance in all areas. This is an essential function to support the Council in providing the services to the residents of the town for example winter gritting cover. The workshop normal operating hours are 6.00am to 14:00pm early shift 12:00pm to 8pm late shift in a up to date clean heated workshop.
The successful candidate will be a qualified Heavy Goods Vehicle mechanic or be time served with significant experience in all the major elements of goods vehicle repair’s including engines, transmission, braking systems, and suspension including a basic knowledge of vehicle electrics. Experience of Goods Vehicle MOT preparation is desirable. Must have the ability to work on a wide variety of vehicles and plant including HGV’s, LGV’s and Agricultural machines.
Benefit package includes Tool Allowance, Call Out Rota payments, good holiday package and a works pension.
