Business Manager (Maternity Cover)

 

Salary: NJC Grade 7-10 (22 – 39), £31,364 - £47,420 Full-Time Equivalent (Starting point dependent on experience)

Contract: 1-Year Maternity Cover, Flexible Working Considered (3 to 5 days per week)

Location: The Mercian Trust (Hybrid Role)

Hours: By agreement between core hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm

Reporting to: Trust Business Partner

 

About the Role:

The Mercian Trust is seeking an experienced and dynamic Business Manager to join our Trust Finance Team on a maternity cover basis. This role will support our Head Teachers and Senior Leadership Teams (SLTs) across specific schools within our Trust, ensuring effective financial administration and contributing to strategic budget management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide financial support to School Budget Holders, Head Teachers, and the Trust Business Partner.
  • Prepare and manage strategic school budgets in alignment with school and Trust development plans.
  • Conduct financial forecasting, analyzing income and expenditure trends, and ensuring accuracy in reporting.
  • Prepare and disseminate financial reports to Head Teachers and the Trust.
  • Complete monthly payroll reconciliations and financial KPI reporting.
  • Offer strategic financial advice based on benchmarking and curriculum financial planning analysis.
  • Administer student financial support, including pupil premium and bursary requests.
  • Ensure compliance with Trust financial policies and promote best practices across schools.
  • Manage school procurement contracts and liaise on financial transactions related to trips, school funds, and catering services.
  • Provide on-site financial support across various school locations within the Trust.

 

About You:

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial management within an educational or similar environment. You will be a proactive problem solver with excellent communication skills, able to work independently and as part of a team. Experience in budget preparation, financial forecasting, and reporting is essential.
