Job Details
The Commandery is one of Worcester's key visitor attractions. As a Visitor Engagement Assistant you will play an important part in caring for this unique historic building, helping people to enjoy their visit and ensuring the smooth running of daily activities.
This crucial frontline role requires an enthusiastic and engaging individual to welcome our visitors, interpret our building & exhibitions in an enjoyable and informative way, and to deliver excellent standards of customer care at all times. The role also includes keyholding and security of the building, supervising contractors, ensuring the smooth operating of the site throughout the day and providing cover in the Shop/Reception. Our VEAs also take full responsibility for the building at the weekends.
Strong candidates will have an enthusiastic approach to their work and a desire to learn and share their knowledge. We are looking for a good team player, with a strong background in delivering first class customer service. The successful candidate will have the confidence and skills required to take responsibility for the site at the weekends and the physical ability to undertaken duties which will involve lifting, carrying and moving items and furniture. Also key will be a practical and flexible attitude, and the ability to organise your working day to maximise efficiency and complete tasks.
Key attributes include excellent communication skills, a sound understanding of customer care and a proactive approach to work. Previous experience delivering excellent customer service in a public facing role is essential. Previous experience working in the Museum / Heritage sector, and working with school groups would be a definite advantage, as would experience of security of public buildings.
This role will work an average of 12.5 hours a week. The post works across a repeating two week rota – the hours actually worked are every Friday, and every other weekend (both Saturday and Sunday). The post holder works February to December each year – your salary for the 11 months is paid in equal instalments across 12 months.
Candidates will need to have the flexibility to work occasional overtime in addition to their rota to provide cover for colleagues and assist with our public events programme. This would ideally include most Bank Holidays and occasional evenings, as well as cover for other members of the team during normal museum hours
