We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Education Needs Support Assistant to support our children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The successful candidate will play a crucial role in delivering tailored learning experiences and ensuring the children’s educational and emotional needs are met effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support and Instruction: Provide one-on-one support for children with SEND, implementing personalised learning strategies and interventions designed to meet the child’s individual needs.
- Assessment and Planning: Assess the child’s progress and adapt learning plans accordingly. Collaborate with the class teacher and SENDCo to create and implement effective personalised plans (in line with a child’s Pupil Passport) and other relevant documentation.
- Behaviour and Emotional Support: Assist with managing the child’s behaviour and emotional well-being, employing strategies to support positive behaviour and self-regulation.
- Learning Environment: Create and maintain a supportive and inclusive learning environment, ensuring that the student feels valued and motivated.
- Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, parents, and external professionals to ensure a cohesive approach to the child’s education and development.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of the student’s progress and communicate regularly with relevant staff and stakeholders regarding the child’s achievements and areas for improvement.
- Professional Development: Stay updated with best practices and new developments in SEND education. Attend training sessions and workshops as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
Experience: A minimum of two years’ experience working with children with SEND needs, preferably within an educational setting. Qualifications: Relevant qualifications in SEND or special education support and teaching practices (e.g., minimum NVQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent). Skills:
- Proven ability to assess and deliver learning tailored to the individual needs of a SEND student.
- Strong understanding of different SEND needs and effective strategies to address them.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to manage challenging behaviour and support the emotional well-being of the student.
