Level 2 - Leisure Team Member - Apprentice
Contract - Fixed term: 18 months contract
Salary: £22,071
Hours: 37 hours per week (this includes shift working patterns including weekends)

WV Active is the Council’s leisure brand and has three centres in the city. Bert Williams, in Bilston and our dual site Aldersley Leisure Village in Tettenhall and Central Baths, in the city centre. We currently support over 9000 members to achieve their health and fitness goals.

We’re now recruiting two apprentices to join our team. One apprentice will be based in Bert Williams, in Bilson and one apprentice will be based our dual site Aldersley Leisure Village in Tettenhall and Central Baths, in the city centre You’ll need to be fit, enthusiastic and customer focused, want to play your part in moving the business forward and support the growth of the membership base, during what is an exciting time for WV Active.
As an Apprentice you will be supported by our experienced and knowledgeable management team whilst you gain the skills you need to achieve your Leisure Team Member Level 2. You will need to be motivated and committed to complete your training and truly engage with the hands-on experience you will gain from working with our team.
As a Leisure Team Member Apprentice, you will be at the very heart of the service and an important part of the team, engaging and participating in everything we do.
So, what do we expect from you:
- You need to be passionate about working in the leisure and fitness industry
- You need a good level of fitness to be able to support WV Active’s varied range of activities
- Deliver excellent customer service - Being enthusiastic, at ease in talking to a wide range of customers, interacting with them around the centre, in group classes, around the pool and on the gym floor.
- Supporting our members providing encouragement to motivate them to achieve their goals and helping to improve overall physical activity levels in the city
- Ensuring everyone using the centres does so safely which includes working in the gyms, studios and supervising the pool and making sure that the centres maintain the very highest levels of cleanliness
- Actively and consistently promoting WV Active and its services and to make every member’s visit an enjoyable experience that keeps them coming back
- Working hours will include days, evenings, and weekends shifts.
Work conditions
You will be required to work in line with the rota shift working patterns in place at each of the centres.

Special conditions:
You will need to attend regular lifeguard training sessions to ensure ongoing personal development and compliance of the requirements of the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification.
This post is subject to the essential qualifications highlighted in the person specification and an enhanced DBS check.
The successful apprentice will receive on the job training and will complete a Level 2 Leisure Team member Apprenticeship

As part of the apprenticeship, you will also gain the below qualifications, if not already held.
- A RLSS lifeguard qualification.
- A Swim England Level 2 in Teaching Swimming
- A Level 2 Certificate in Fitness or Gym Instruction
- A Level 3 certificate in First Aid

Our working arrangements
All council roles are allocated to either a fixed, field or flexible work style. Some roles are agile which enable and empowers employees to maximise their performance and productivity, whilst maintaining a healthy work life balance. Roles with a fixed workstyle work in a fixed permanent council location. Roles with a field workstyle are usually allocation where employees are required to be out working in the community with a minimum requirement for 'touch down' space at any council location. Roles with a flexible workstyle have a flexible base location to meet the needs of the business and employees can work from a mixture of home or any council office, partner/client, or external location, as required to meet service requirements.
