The Governing Body of James Watt Primary School wish to appoint to the post of SENCO

Applications are invited from experienced SENCOs who wish to join our team. We are a two form primary school providing education for children aged 3 to 11 (Nursery to Year 6) situated in the heart of Handsworth and are OFSTED rated Good.

The SENCO, under the direction of the headteacher, will:

  • determine the strategic development of special educational needs (SEN) policy and provision in the school
  • promote an ethos of inclusive practice across the school
  • be responsible for day-to-day operation of the SEN policy and co-ordination of specific provision to support individual pupils with SEN or a disability
  • provide professional guidance and effectively liaise with colleagues, working closely with staff, parents and other external agencies be expected to fulfil the responsibilities of a teacher, as set out in the STPCD. While the SENCO will have responsibility for the oversight of provision for pupils with SEN or a disability, class teachers will hold responsibility for the day-to-day education and support of pupils within their classroom

Duties & responsibilities;

  • strategic development of SEN policy and provision
  • operation of the SEN policy and co-ordination of provision
  • coordinate support for pupils with SEN or a disability
  • be part of the school leadership team
  • safeguarding - promote a safe and secure learning environment for pupils with SEND and uphold all safeguarding expectations
