The work we do at Worcestershire County Council matters! We are there for the most vulnerable people in society who need us the most, we are helping to build a successful and growing local economy, we protect our environment, we improve outcomes for our children, young people and families, and we help ensure our residents are healthier, live longer and have a better quality of life. In short, what we do makes a difference to people's lives!

We have one of the fastest growing economies in the country and it’s something we are incredibly proud of. Our investment into infrastructure is greater now than at any stage in the last 30 years as we strive to ensure Worcestershire is a fantastic place to live, work, travel through and do business in.

The Highways and Transport Directorate lives and breathes the County Council’s key priority of Worcestershire being ‘Open for Business’. We promote economic growth by reducing journey times, improving connectivity and increasing employment opportunities throughout the county. We wouldn’t be able to do any of that without our dedicated staff. Our teams are made up of talented individuals including engineers, planners, surveyors, project managers and civil engineering professionals with a wide variety of skills and qualifications to support the delivery of our corporate priorities.

You’ll be working in our friendly and knowledgeable Local Works team who will support your development and get the most from your experience of highway construction techniques. There are lots of opportunities for progession too, with our great career pathways.

Using your sound technical and practical problem solving skills, you’ll be keeping our roads safe by assessing and delivering great highways maintenance.  You’ll be advising other team members, going out on site visits and liaising with other talented technicians to deliver a range of highways maintenance activities.

You may on occasion be working out-of-hours for which you will be paid for and you’ll be part of making a difference for the people of Worcestershire by supporting  major incidents such as severe weather events.
