Individual School Range MPR /UPR plus SEN Allowance (£2270 rising to £4470 for Candidates achieving the National Award for SEN Coordination - NASENCo)

Harborne Primary will require a new SENDCo, from January 2025 or earlier, if possible, to take on this vital role at our school.

Successful applicants must have at least 3- 5 years successful teaching experience within the primary age range.

This SENDCo role requires you to be a highly motivated, inspiring, innovative, solution-focused and have the desire to effectively manage and lead SEND provision across the school to ensure the best possible outcomes for this vulnerable group of learners. The role will not be a class-based role but candidates will be expected to support under-performing children through group and 1-1 provision. Candidates must possess qualified teacher status and, if successfully appointed to the permanent position in September, be willing to work towards completing the National SENDCo Masters level qualification if not already attained.

The successful candidates must have:

  • outstanding communication skills
  • the desire to be the ‘champion’ for this group of pupils
  • the highest expectations of teaching and learning
  • a record of good/outstanding classroom practice
  • excellent organisational skills and the ability to work effectively to deadlines
  • the desire and ability to effectively lead and manage a team of 5 SEND TAs
  • the acumen to successfully liaise with other professionals and outside agencies
  • the inter-personal skills to build effective relationships with parents and carers
  • the resilience and ability to remain calm and solution-focused in challenging situations

The SENDCo responsibilities will include:

  • working collaboratively with class teachers, teaching assistants and the pastoral team
  • provide advice and support to enable staff to offer high quality provision to SEND pupils
  • leading an established team to ensure good progress continues to be made by pupils with SEND
  • ensuring the school meets all statutory requirements with regards to SEND provision and policy requirements in line with the SEND code of practice
  • liaising with a variety of other professionals and outside agencies to ensure that the needs of all pupils are identified and met
  • co-ordinating the assessment process for children who require an EHCP
  • co-ordinating the collation of information and the creation of SEND Support Provision Plans to secure funding for the school
  • advising and supporting the parents of pupils on the SEND register
  • being part of the SLT team to further improve SEND provision

Desirables:

  • understanding of trauma informed and attachment aware practice
  • experience of effectively contributing to provision mapping for vulnerable/disadvantaged pupils
  • understanding of accessibility plans
  • experience of adding content to a website (in the role it will be necessary to maintain the SEND section of the website)
