Teacher Vacancy
Short Heath Federation
M1-UPS3
At Short Heath Federation, we are looking for some really special people to work in some really special schools with some really special children and staff.
We are in an exciting phase in our Federation’s development, as we are West Walsall’s Nurture Hub, leading in schools on developing restorative practice, active members of the attachment research community – amongst other things. Our practice is recognised as exceptional. Our staff are too.
We are very much a team and working that way is important to us. It benefits everyone. Our motto, ‘Every Day, in Every Way, Everyone Matters’ explains perfectly who we are and what we do. We have a very high proportion of children with a wide range of Special Educational Needs, both at SEN Support and with EHCPs. The highest proportion in Walsall in fact. We can only do that with highly skilled and specialist staff who care desperately about doing what’s right for our children, who will always be curious and thinking about what else could work for a child if the current strategy isn’t working, who firmly believes that children sometimes communicate their love in the most unloving of ways, and will be there for them through the great times and the harder times. That’s what they deserve – no less.
We have recently opened a Specialist Resource Provision at another of our schools, and we operate these specialist provisions in all of our schools so that children’s needs can be met in a mainstream setting, or until a time where that is no longer appropriate for them.
If you are an energetic, enthusiastic and outstanding teacher, we want you at Short Heath Federation. You will inspire our children, ensuring they make good progress and enjoy learning. You might have just qualified, be in the early stages of your career or an experienced teacher. Your specialism may be in EYFS, Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2. Specialisms in SEN and SEMH would be an advantage, but we’ll give lots of training anyway.
You should:
- be an inspirational teacher;
- create an irresistible learning experience for every single child;
- believe that all behaviour is communication of an unmet need;
- believe that ‘every day, in every way, everyone matters’;
- love working as part of a team;
- be a courageous, innovative teacher who’s not afraid to try something new and learn from that;
- be a reflective practitioner, adapting your practice in response to children’s changing needs;
- support our Federation Christian ethos.
We can offer:
- a tailor-made induction programme (whatever your career stage) including opportunities for developing practice in our own and other schools in Walsall;
- a personalised professional development plan;
- a career coach;
- Local Authority staff well-being programme;
- an exciting opportunity for extensive professional development across a federation of schools, working with good and outstanding teachers and a range of specialist practitioners in all phases;
- laptop;
- discounted childcare;
- ongoing weekly professional development meetings;
- the support of a leading practitioner and 6 specialist leaders of education spread across all phases;
- the best children and families;
- opportunities to shadow other colleagues, learning from the best;
- supportive, fun, dedicated, creative and talented colleagues;
- opportunities to support colleagues in a range of settings;
- an exceptionally strong Governing Body;
If you can see yourself being part of our team and our exciting future, you can download an application pack from our website - https://www.lane-head.walsall.sch.uk/more/federation-jobs. Email Cathy Draper, Executive Headteacher cdraper@shortheathfederation.org.uk) if you want more information.
Closing date for receipt of applications is 12.00 noon on Monday 14th October, with interviews being held later that week. All application forms should be sent to brics@shortheathfederation.org.uk as a word document.
We are an equal opportunities employer. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, keeping children safe in education and promoting British Values in school, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All appointments are subject to 2 satisfactory references, an enhanced DBS check, and proof of the Right to Work in the UK.
Company
Our mission statement is:
Every day,
In every way,
Everyone matters.
Short Heath Federation was formed in 2006 when Lane Head Nursery School, Rosedale Church of England Infant School and Short Heath Junior School joined forces under one governing body. Since then, we haven’t looked back!
Each of our schools is led by a Head of School – they are in charge of the day to day running of their school, as well as working together with the Executive Headteacher on the strategic improvement of all of our schools. All three of them are amazingly talented school leaders - specialists in their field. The Executive Head takes responsibility for the development of the federation (with a primary focus on continually improving the quality of teaching and learning in our schools), as well as supporting other schools in an advisory role and carrying out Ofsted Inspections in schools in the West Midlands Region.
We never stand still and since we federated, we have gone from strength to strength. Lane Head is an outstanding nursery school and Rosedale and Short Heath are both good schools. Across all schools we have an incredibly talented team of staff – every single one of them. We have more Specialist Leaders of Education than we have ever had before – we see ourselves as lifelong learners and are constantly researching effective practice and implementing even better teaching practices in our schools. Our leading practitioners enjoy using action research to further improve what we do.
We are very proud that we are able to support other schools in Walsall. We have a rapidly growing reputation as a centre of excellence and others are always keen to learn from what we do. We aspire to provide the very best possible education that we can for our children. It’s important to us that we support every aspect of a child’s development – personal, social and emotional, as well as academic.
One of our many particular strengths, and one that we are especially proud of, is that we focus on the very specific needs of every child – we really do mean it when we say ‘Every Day, in Every Way, Everyone Matters’. All staff believe that every single child has the potential to be exceptional – we do our very best to make sure we give them all of the opportunities that they need. Our children deserve the best!
Although we are a federation, each of our schools has its own unique character and it’s always been important to us that we keep it that way. You can find out much more about each school on their individual website.
Another strength, and something that makes our federation unusual, is that one of our schools is a Church of England School. From the beginning it has been important to us all that we have a strong Christian ethos across all of our schools and we are extremely fortunate to have Furzebank Worship Centre on site as well as an extremely supportive vicar and church community. Without doubt, our outstanding Christian distinctiveness makes our settings extra special.
The future is exciting. We are looking forward to being able to welcome 90 children into our Reception classes from 2019, instead of the 60 we can currently take. We are looking forward to continuing to develop the extensive range of support that we give to our families beyond.
I am extremely proud to lead Short Heath Federation. Our children are amazing and make every single day fulfilling. We love what we do and we know that you will love it too.
