Teacher of Politics – King Henry VIII School
Required from January 2025 – Full-Time (1 year fixed -term Maternity Cover)
Do you have a passion for life and learning? If so, our inspirational teaching team at King Henry VIII School is looking for a colleague to join our Sixth Form teaching team as a Politics teacher. Your dynamic and creative approach will help encourage and champion today’s young sixth form psychologist in this, one of the Midlands’ leading co-educational independent schools.
King Henry VIII School (as part of the Coventry School Foundation) provides a forward-thinking and contemporary education for girls and boys across the whole West Midlands region. Located within a stone’s throw of Coventry railway station, King Henry’s has a diverse school community and is committed to inclusive recruitment and inclusion in the workplace.
Our school aims, both in and out of the classroom, are clear:
To celebrate our diverse and inclusive community To inspire aspirational and authentic lifelong learners and leaders To empower courage, creativity and compassion in each student To nurture respectful, resilient and kind individuals If this matches your educational vision, then this is the perfect time to join our school. We launched Politics as an A Level subject in 2022, with our first cohort achieving excellent results this summer. Politics is a growing subject at A Level, with pupils last year continuing to study the subject at university. The subject is taught across the Coventry Schools Foundation, with pupils from Bablake School also joining with their King Henry’s peers for lessons.
Previous experience and knowledge of teaching another one of the Humanities (RS, History etc.) or a further A Level subject across social sciences (Psychology, Law, Business etc.) would be beneficial, but is not essential.
At A Level we deliver EDEXCEL specification. Our GCSE and A Level results are outstanding, as you would expect from an academically selective school with high aspirations for all pupils. At King Henry’s however, we believe there is so much more to education than simply exam results. We believe strongly in enrichment and extension and in all our teaching we aim to build critical thinking, confidence, independence and a love of learning.
Teamwork plays an important role. Our staff love to enhance the experience of the students by sharing good practice, resources and ideas. We are looking for a well-qualified, who shares our vision, is passionate about Politics and who will bring their own individuality to this warm and supportive team.
In addition, any prospective candidate must show an active commitment to the values and expectations of our school community and to the welfare of the pupils within it. The enthusiasm to lead co-curricular activities and to further enhance the student experience beyond the classroom is an important quality of all who work at King Henry’s.
We offer:
A community of considerate, creative and compassionate students and staff A highly diverse and inclusive school community, committed to our bursary provision An inspiring and enthusiastic team of colleagues across the teaching and support staff A commitment to staff CPD and developing people professionally through mentoring and coaching, using both internal and external expertise A diverse benefits package including: Competitive salary Teachers’ Pension Scheme Free onsite parking Free Sport Centre Membership Free lunches School fee discount Cycle to work scheme What you can offer us:
Excellent subject knowledge and a passion for Politics The ability to teach Politics to highly able pupils at A Level A talent for motivating and enthusing young learners to achieve their best Kindness and open-mindedness Intellectual curiosity, enthusiasm and a personal ethos of lifelong learning Resilience and optimism; someone who is willing to go the extra mile in the busy life of the school The ability to build positive and constructive relationships with pupils, both as a teacher and form tutor, taking a proactive approach to the wellbeing and mental health of young people Team-working abilities and a keenness to enable all colleagues to contribute ideas and be part of positive change Commitment to the well-being and safeguarding of all students and staff Commitment to diversity, inclusion and anti-racism in the school community
