An exciting job opportunity has arisen to join Birmingham City Council's expanding Environmental Health team.

This includes over 11,000 food premises and 150 food manufacturers of which nearly 100 require approval.  You will be joining a supportive, friendly, and professional team. 

We are seeking highly motivated, passionate Food Safety Officers to join us.  Successful candidates will be responsible for undertaking inspections and investigations, and taking enforcement action where there is non-compliance across a range of food hygiene and standards legislation. 

Some of the qualifications and skills required include: 

  • Possess the Higher Certificate in Food Control to deliver food hygiene and food standards official controls.
  • Knowledge and practical experience in the enforcement of legislation including drafting and serving notices, collection of evidence, writing witness statements and preparing prosecution files. 
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) at all levels including with residents, businesses, colleagues and partner agencies.
  • An ability to prioritise and manage your own workload to meet deadlines in a busy environment with competing demands. 
  • Ability to work flexibly including some work outside normal officer hours.
  • The requirement to drive is essential. You will be expected to travel within Birmingham for which you will be remunerated for the use of your car.
