About the Role

Never a dull day at Archaeology Warwickshire - well not many. Big enough to win some top-notch projects but small enough that we all get to muck in with the good stuff, we now seek an enthusiastic Post-Excavation Supervisor to carry on the work of the last one, who incidentally is now our Archaeobotanist. Trained as an archaeologist, you will need to supervise others on all manner of post-excavation tasks and sometimes, when the sun shines, help out on site.

Your main role will be to ensure that the material and environmental assemblages that come in from site are efficiently processed and prepared for specialist analysis and storage and that they are always accompanied by their relevant datasets. You will need to be able to identify finds groups and know immediately how to take care of them. It is likely that you will spend time processing finds and environmental samples.

You will be adept at keeping records, creating databases and double checking what you and your assistants have done. You will liaise confidently with managers, specialists and volunteers and you will keep high standards at the core of everything you do.

We have been providing commercial archaeology and heritage services since the 1980s and we are proud of our focus on a healthy work-life balance and our commitment to enabling people to be the best they can be. Our training and CPD offer is exceptional and we will encourage you to take on a specialism, write reports, get involved with CIfA and anything else that means your aspirations align with ours.

This is a full time and permanent position with outstanding benefits in a long established CIfA Registered Organisation.

Key requirements

  • Degree or post-graduate qualification in archaeology or related discipline
  • Demonstrable experience of archaeological competence and/or completion of a recognised training scheme / skills passport
  • Experience of working on a wide range of archaeological projects and sites
  • Understanding of site matrix compilation and analysis
  • Ability to effectively report on work undertaken
  • Ability to work as part of a team or independently with limited supervision
  • A current UK driving licence and unequivocal willingness and competency to drive for business needs (including driving WCC vehicles)
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists or commitment to join
