Solihull MBC and Coventry City Council have a Shared Procurement Service and work closely with procurement in Warwickshire County Council. As well as category management responsibilities for all three authorities and the sub-region, our procurement teams work together for the benefit of the sub-region and to support front line service delivery to those people who use our services by providing an effective, efficient and value for money service. And now we have a fantastic opportunity to join us.

Providing strategic direction you will lead a team to support the development of the service to deliver savings through vital projects and contracts which has an annual value of approximately £140m. You will also have influence over external spend by the Councils participating in the shared service - a spend of c. £704m – and be responsible for delivering efficiency targets, including those identified through the ‘Shaping Solihull’ programme. Engaging with and influencing the most senior levels across the organisation as well as collaborating with a range of stakeholders you will assist the Head of Procurement to manage the service’s budgets and performance to ensure the Council’s procurement activity is delivered to the highest standards and meets its legal obligations.

To make this outstanding opportunity yours, you will need to be CIPS qualified and have excellent communication, planning and time management skills. Your level of procurement commercial and contractual experience, skill and knowledge will match the requirements of the role and will have been gained across diverse entities within a large to medium organisation in either the public or the private sector. Working knowledge of public sector procurement processes, including public contract legislation would be useful too. Put simply, this opportunity will allow you to make the most of your leadership skills, procurement expertise, tenacity, drive and influencing skills and help shape and implement a strategy that will deliver important year on year savings.
