Job Details
The Disability Day Opportunities service is looking for a Support Worker to provide compassionate, safe, effective and responsive support that will assist service users in maximizing their independence.
This role involves providing support with a range of personal and practical tasks that will achieve agreed personal goals, so that wherever possible service users are able to exercise choice and control in maintaining their wellbeing.
Key elements of the role:
- To promote and ensure service delivery which values and respects the dignity, diversity, rights, and responsibilities of individuals.
- To support and participate in service users’ chosen activities.
- Develop relationships with people which value them as individuals, along with establishing and maintaining effective communication.
- Reporting feedback on an individual’s plans, giving accurate feedback and recording progress towards agreed outcomes.
- Promoting citizenship and community engagement. This includes, but is not limited to activities both in the persons home and community that will promote both physical and emotional wellbeing.
- Volunteering.
- Life skills development.
Essential Requirements:
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience of delivering care and support to older people or people with a disability, to enable them to live independently.
- Ability to work flexible hours and in a range of environments.
- Ability to do lone working.
- Willingness and able to travel around the borough with a good knowledge of the Sandwell area.
- Aged 18 years old or over.
- Able to work as a team and use own initiative.
- Able to prioritise workload and deliver high standards of support to our customers using a person-centred approach.
- Will be required to undertake and complete the care certificate or equivalent.
- Will be required to undertake specific training to Adult Social Care that will enable individuals care and support needs to be met appropriately.
- The successful candidate will undertake an enhanced DBS check.

37 hours per week
