Company
The Westminster School is a Special School in Rowley Regis which currently caters for 275 pupils aged 7 to 19 years with moderate learning disabilities plus additional needs.
The Westminster School takes great pride in being able to deliver an innovative child-centred curriculum. The school’s curriculum is focused around 6 holistic areas: My Communication, My Community, My Care and Independence, My Creativity, My Thinking, My Wellbeing. Traditionally the education system required the child needed to fit into the curriculum, at The Westminster School the curriculum wraps around the young person meeting them at the point of need. Our work on supported internships and supported apprenticeships for students with learning disabilities are at the forefront of national developments.
We moved to our new site in February 2011. The School was purpose built. Most ground floor classrooms have access to outside spaces, incorporating Learning Outside the Classroom into our enriched curriculum. Our values are encompassed in our statement of Safe, Happy and Learning Together. Through this we seek to develop our values statement: Building foundations and providing opportunities to create confident, aspirational and independent members of our community.
We have an exceptionally strong culture of safeguarding, and pupil welfare is one of our highest priorities.
We aim to be an equal opportunities employer and cultivate an inclusive, diverse school community within which difference is celebrated. We are determined to ensure that no applicant or employee receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of gender, age, disability, religion, belief, sexual orientation, marital status, or race. The Westminster School is committed to ensuring equality of opportunity in employment for all and to taking action to avoid discrimination.
The Westminster School is recognised as a Disability Confident Employer. We play a leading role in changing attitudes for the better and reaping the benefits of inclusive recruitment and workplace practices.
The Westminster School has achieved the Investors in People Platinum Award and was the first school in the country to achieve this recognition
