The Role
Are you looking to top up your income, working alongside other commitments?
Would you like to explore teaching in a new context, using your experience to benefit your community?
If this sounds appealing, we would love to hear from you!
At Learning Services Worcestershire, our ambition is to ensure all learners receive outstanding teaching, learning and skills in high quality safe and accessible learning spaces. Our services work proactively to address the barriers to learning and achievement experienced by some of the most vulnerable in our communities.
The English and Maths team lie at the heart of our offer, working in innovative ways to bring engaging and relevant learning opportunities to a wide range of audiences. Examples of the team’s work vary from delivering short first-step, preparing to learn courses to allow learners to build confidence in core literacy skills, to delivering Functional Skills English qualifications at Entry 3 to Level 2 and GCSE English.
From helping with homework to Higher Education, whatever your learner’s individual goal might be, you get to see the difference your teaching is making to their lives and the lives of those around them. Course lengths vary from a few weeks to year-long programmes depending on learner need as does the delivery mode, with some courses being delivered online and some in person at our Learning Centre in Warndon, Worcester and other community-based venues such as libraries.
Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent teaching and learning practice in both online and face-to-face environments. As part of a small and very supportive team of highly dedicated tutors you will contribute to an existing pool of shared resources and expertise.
Excellent interpersonal skills are also vital, with the ability to adapt communication as well as subject content to the needs of those you are working with. You will also have experience of supporting learners to overcome barriers such as those presented by health, learning needs or personal and economic circumstances. This sessional role is a non-obligation contract designed to suit those who do not want to commit to a regular pattern of work.
Work is offered on a short-term basis, for example, one or more courses to run over a specified length of time. Please note this post is advertised at scale 6 for which a full teaching qualification at level 5 or above is required (see Person Specification for further detail). A more detailed description of our Service and the work of the team is also attached for your reference.
If you are unsure but would like to learn more about what we do, call 01905 728537 and ask for Beccy Fraser.
