About Shropshire Council
As a council, we’re putting Shropshire on the map because of the way we’re changing ourselves and transforming lives.
As a county, Shropshire already occupies its own privileged place in the hearts of the people who live here. If we’re England’s best-kept secret, we quite like it that way, as we’re a county of hidden gems that we don’t always shout about.
We’re a county of attractive, bustling market towns, each with its own identity crafted over hundreds of years, where you’ll find great pubs and unique little festivals. Situated in the Welsh Marches, the sense of history throughout our countryside and our towns and villages is tangible.
People talk about quality of life. In Shropshire, we live it.
Why work for us?
Helping the people of Shropshire live their best lives: this is what we do, and why we all chose to work here.
Shropshire Council is a complex organisation of some 5,700 people. We care for society’s most vulnerable. We help local businesses grow. We educate children and young people in schools and academies. We look after our shared environment now, and for future generations. We encourage people to take part in the democratic process – because we are their council, after all.
We do all this and much, much more besides.
Whatever we do, we are united around our shared purpose: to help the people of Shropshire to live their very best lives. Join us, and you will too.
We’re a council on a journey. Come with us.
We’re not your typical council. Why? Because we’re not afraid to change. In fact, right now, we’re on a journey that will transform the way we work, the services we deliver – and the lives of our residents. Come with us and see how far you go.
Opportunities, not just jobs.
Our council is all about opportunity: when we help our residents to live their best lives, they open up new opportunities for themselves. It’s the same for your career: you’ll have every opportunity to bring new ideas and new ways of working, and open up opportunities for yourself.
Welcome to Shropshire.
Sensible rents and house prices? Check. Some of the most beautiful countryside in the country? Check. Hidden gems, vibrant places to eat and drink? Check. An hour away from Birmingham and Manchester? Check. Shropshire gives you the work/life balance you’ve been craving.
