Children’s Specialist Social Work Assistant – Children with Disabilities Team

Scale 6 £30,559 to £32,654
29.60 hours per week – 4 days a week
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Social Work Assistant within the Children with Disabilities Team.
This is an opportunity to join a service that is reshaping our approach to the delivery of support throughout a child’s journey. Achieving this by working with children, young people and their families to determine identified social care needs into a holistic network of support, which will achieve positive outcomes and ensure children and young people reach their potential.
The Children with Disabilities Service supports children and young people from 0 to 17 years old with complex health, medical and learning difficulties and disabilities, and their families. The service includes a range of professionals, they are:
- Social Workers;
- Social Work Assistants.
- Short-Break Co-ordinator;
- Direct Payment Officer
- Occupational Therapy Team
The Children with Disabilities Team work with all children and young people where their disability impacts on their ability to have opportunities to be safe, develop skills for life and be part of their local community.
The post holder will be responsible for the planning and reviewing of social care needs for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. The children and young people may also have complex health needs.
The post holder will work directly with children, young people and their families to ensure their views are listened to, and that they are fully engaged in processes to ensure appropriate support is implemented. Integral to practice is multi-agency working with relevant partners within health, education and social care agencies.
The post requires experience and knowledge of working with children and young people with special educational needs/ disabilities and be able to work closely with their families. Also, literacy and numerous qualifications; GSCE – English, Maths A-C or NVQ 3 in Childcare or equivalent.
