Warwick District Council is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced policy planner to join our team!
We are looking to recruit a planner with strong experience in planning policy to help the team deliver on important work, including the production of a new Local Plan.
The advertised post sits within the Planning Policy & Delivery team of the Council, responsible for matters relating to planning policy, development monitoring, delivery of major development sites and the Community Infrastructure Levy.
Warwick District Council is currently progressing the new South Warwickshire Local Plan, being prepared jointly with Stratford-on-Avon District Council. It is therefore a fantastic opportunity for you to be directly involved in the production of a new Local Plan. This involves setting the strategy for achieving significant levels of housing and employment growth through sustainable development and developing policies that will serve the area for the next 20+ years on critical matters such as climate change.
The policy function also leads on the production of supplementary plans and has recently adopted a Net Zero Carbon DPD, becoming one of only a few authorities nationally to have developed such policy.
Working within the policy team, you will play an important role in the preparation of the Local Plan and other policy documents, including research, policy formulation, participation in consultation events, and representing the Council at independent examinations and public inquiries.
The role will also provide you with opportunities to undertake other policy work including:
to support our communities with the preparation and reviews of their Neighbourhood Plans provide expert policy advice to colleagues in Development Management and Elected Members housing trajectory and 5-year housing land supply work You will need to be self-motivated and enthusiastic with strong interpersonal skills. Being a team player is essential although you will also need to have initiative and be able to take the lead on specific pieces of work, reflecting the senior level of this role. Good communication skills are essential given that the role involves interaction with colleagues, partners, members of the public and other stakeholders.
The intention is for the postholder to work predominately from home. However, it is a requirement to attend our offices or sites within Warwick District as required. Any costs for travel from home to the office will be met by the successful candidate. However, office and hybrid working are also available
