About Exhall Grange Specialist School
Many of our children and young people are physically or emotionally extremely vulnerable or have life limiting conditions. Some of our pupils are highly anxious and require our calm, predictable and nurturing environment in order to access school.

About our School Site
The site is campus style with six separate buildings and has an exceptional range of facilities including a swimming pool, fitness suite, sensory rooms, soft playroom and enterprise kitchen as well as design technology facilities and science laboratories. The school’s outside space comprises of a large sports field, forest school and hard tarmac playground areas. To support extra-curricular activities the school has a small fleet of five mini-buses.
About the Position
We are seeking to appoint an Assistant School Caretaker.
The working hours are 08.00 am until 16.30 pm Monday to Friday (40 hours per week) with a starting allowance of 21 days annual leave plus an additional 12 days for Bank Holidays/County Holidays, depending on continuous service.
The actual salary is £ 27,805 - £ 28,245 per annum.
Working under the broad direction of the Site Manager and following established procedures the post is responsible for:
• Undertaking caretaking services to all buildings and grounds forming the school site, ensuring a safe and secure environment.
• Undertaking minor or temporary maintenance and repairs.
• Assisting with the management of a small minibus fleet as directed (Driving Licence required).
• Maintaining the swimming pool, which includes daily cleaning of the poolside, changing rooms and toilets.
• The effective provision of caretaking, cleaning and site maintenance routines and responding to emergencies relating to the site as necessary.
• Undertaking regular compliance checks required for lighting, water temperatures, playground equipment, perimeter fencing etc.
The successful candidate will have:
• Minor maintenance skills (e.g plumbing, glazing, woodwork etc) to make safe
• The ability to operate cleaning equipment, machinery and tools and undertake basic maintenance
• Literacy and numeracy skills
• An understanding of basic administrative systems as detailed in the Job Description/Person Specification
• A current valid driving licence
• Good team skills
Where necessary, training will be provided for:
• National Pool Plant Operator course
• PAT testing
• MIDAS minibus driving
• Fire Warden
• General caretaking including safe working at height
You will work closely with the Site Manager and premises team to ensure the school premises are maintained to a good standard at all times.
Although experience of working within an Education and Learning environment would be desirable, this is not essential providing you have transferable skills.
