 An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our highly innovative and motivated Development Management Team as a Technical Business Support Officer. Fundamental to our success you will deliver a varied range of planning and development management services.

You will be a valued member of our team providing excellent business and customer support services across our department. Supporting services which include Ecology, Building Control, Built Heritage Conservation and Highways Development Management to deliver professional quality and innovative services to all of our customers.

You will be based in Telford - a destination of vibrant places and experiences where people love to live, work and play. Sitting in the heart of Shropshire, Telford is the gateway between the Midlands and Wales.  Rich in heritage and natural beauty, the borough has a vibrant town centre that’s currently expanding and a 450 acre town park with numerous leisure facilities;

As part of the Development Management team you will be play a part in the development and creation of creative and positive places for those who live and work in Telford, building a safe and sustainable environment for future generations to enjoy

 You will be expected to:

  • Have a NVQ level 2 in Business Administration or equivalent qualifications.
  •  Preferably have experience of working with Legislation, being able to understand and translate this to customers.
  • Provide an essential front line service over the telephone, email and face to face dealing with often complex queries regarding Planning/Conservation and Building Control issues, and those provided by Development Management. Therefore, an efficient and friendly helpdesk service must be provided.  
  • Ability to deal with customers in a professional, courteous and unbiased manner, to provide a high quality customer service.
  • Have excellent communication skills: both oral and written, to be able to explain service policy and procedures and communicate decisions/requirements effectively to customers.
