Harvills Hawthorn is a very successful primary school. The calibre of its staff is high and we have a continual drive to raise standards. Our most recent Ofsted (May 2013) judged the school ‘Outstanding’.
The Governors are eager to appoint a HLTA who is passionate about ‘making a difference’ to the lives of our pupils.
The successful applicant will need to:
- Have a relevant HLTA qualification and good literacy and numeracy skills.
- Have a working knowledge of the national curriculum to support and extend learning under the direction of the class teacher.
- Have high standards and present as a positive role model for pupils.
- Have a positive attitude and be able to work as part of a successful and supportive team.
- Be able to show initiative when required.
- Have experience of leading and covering a class following planning provided by the class teacher.
- Have experience of working with primary aged children to support their learning and wellbeing.
- Be able to work intensively with a pupil who needs substantial support with both their learning and social development.
- Have an inclusive approach to working which enables children to be involved in the life of their class.
- Experience working with children who have complex learning needs such as ASD and Autism is desirable. What is essential is a passion to work with children to develop their academic and social skills to their full potential and a determination to do this even if there are difficulties and setbacks. Working one to one with a child is a skilled role that needs patience, commitment and the ability to take pleasure in small steps in learning.
- Liaise well with parents/carers to build positive relationships.
- Be willing to develop their own skills through participation in training opportunities.
We can offer very well behaved pupils that have extremely high expectations of staff and are eager to learn and proud to achieve.
Harvills is a very supportive school where the staff work exceptionally well as a team.
