St Thomas Aquinas is a large and thriving Catholic comprehensive school in the south of Birmingham. Along with seven local primary schools, it is part of growing Catholic Multi Academy. It is a place where staff and students from all faiths live out the school mission.

GCSE examination results in summer 2024 were excellent and in the top group of schools nationally. Building on the ‘Good’ judgement by OFSTED, the Catholic Schools Inspectorate recently judged the school to be ‘Outstanding’ in all areas. As a result, we are an oversubscribed school and becoming more and more popular with families.

As the Sixth Form Learning Supervisor and Mentor, you will be the backbone of all our post 16 operations. From supervising students during study sessions to managing administrative tasks, you’ll ensure the smooth daily functioning of our Sixth Form. The successful candidate will possess a passion and enthusiasm to learn and progress in their role. They will have excellent communication, IT and organisational skills, a discrete, professional, flexible, ‘can do’ attitude and the ability to prioritise. The person appointed will be fully supportive of the strong Catholic ethos here at St Thomas Aquinas Catholic School and be committed to working with children from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds. Experience in supporting educational activities and/or administrative tasks within a school would also be a huge advantage. New staff members benefit from an induction and training programme and full support from senior and middle leaders. Do you have the drive and determination to contribute to the further wider development of our flourishing school? If so, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to informally come and visit the school.

Shortlisting will take place on 13 December and interviews will take place on 17 December.

This post is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016). Therefore the ability to speak fluent and spoken English is an essential requirement for this role.

The Council is a fantastic place to work. You will find an organisation that is both challenging and supportive; with a leadership impatiently adventurous in its pursuit of excellence.

There is a clear vision which is ensuring that the Council is working for communities today and building for tomorrow, we focus our resources on five key priorities:

  • A Prosperous Birmingham: through a focus on inclusive economic growth, tackling unemployment, attracting inward investment, and maximising the benefits of the Commonwealth Games.
  • An Inclusive Birmingham: through a focus on tackling poverty and inequality, empowering citizens, promoting diversity and civic pride, and supporting and enabling all children and young people to thrive.
  • A Safe Birmingham: through a focus on making the city safer, safeguarding vulnerable citizens, increasing affordable housing, and tackling homelessness.
  • A Healthy Birmingham: through a focus on tackling health inequalities, encouraging physical activity and healthy living, supporting mental health, and improving outcomes for adults with disabilities and older people.
  • A Green Birmingham: through a focus on street cleanliness, improving air quality, continuing the route to net zero, and becoming a city of nature.

We see the Council’s role as providing strategic leadership – that’s being able to visualise a new future for the city and equipping others to share our vision. We want to ensure the provision of services for all, so we can support those least able to support themselves by working with partners and putting citizens and neighbourhoods at the heart of our decision-making.
