Job Details
Warwickshire Youth Justice Service are looking for a Full time Senior Youth Justice Practitioner-Education Lead.
You will work as part of a multi-agency service, to prevent and reduce offending by children and young people by providing services as required by the Crime and Disorder Act. This post will also involve work with parents/carers. Warwickshire Youth Justice service has high aspirations for children and young people who have experienced the criminal justice system and believe all children can succeed given the right opportunities at the right time and well thought out support. Warwickshire Youth Justice Service is guided by the Youth Justice Board overriding principle of ‘child first”. In practice this means we;
- Prioritise the best interests of children, recognising their needs, capacities, rights and potential.
- Build on children’s individual strengths and capabilities as a means of developing a pro-social identity for sustainable desistance from crime. This leads to safer communities and fewer victims. All work is constructive and future-focused, built on supportive relationships that empower children to fulfil their potential and make positive contributions to society.
- Encourage children’s active participation, engagement, and wider social inclusion. All work is a meaningful collaboration with children and their carers.
- Promote a childhood removed from the justice system, using prevention, diversion, and minimal intervention. All work minimises criminogenic stigma from contact with the system.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge and skills gained from working within an education setting, to ensure they are able to advocate and support children, young people and their families accessing their full entitlement to education, training or employment. You will represent YJS and the children open to our service within multi agency meetings and discussion forums to ensure their needs are appropriately supported within their education settings, to maintain stability of provision and support safety planning. You will provide high support and high challenge to partner agencies and take a restorative and problem-solving approach. You will join a service that has recently obtained the SEND quality mark and a wider children and families service who are a pathfinder for the families first government’s children’s social care implementation strategy.
You will be provided with support from the MACPT education safeguarding team and from within YJS to ensure good links across the partnership. Full training and continuing professional development will be provided to those new to Youth Justice. Please note this role is required across the year and requires work outside of term times.
