Job Details

We are currently looking to recruit a Local Taxation Officer to join the Billing team in the Revenues and Benefits Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for administering council tax and non-domestic rate records and dealing with enquiries from the public and local businesses. If you are a self-motivated enthusiastic individual with the relevant experience we’d love to hear from you.

 

As a Local Taxation Officer you will be part of the team dealing with the effective processing of billing and collection work with regard to Council Tax and Non-Domestic Rates for Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council.

 

Your main activities will be:

 

  • To process amendments including changes to occupation, banding and rateable values, entitlement to reliefs, discounts and exemptions and changes to payment methods.

 

  • To deal with enquiries from members of the public, businesses and other agencies by way of telephone, private interview, written correspondence or via the enquiry counter.

 

  • To process refunds of overpaid council tax and NNDR.

 

  • To assist in the detection and prevention of fraudulent applications in respect of Council Tax and Non-Domestic Rates

 

  • The postholder will be expected to maintain an in depth working knowledge of Council Tax and Non Domestic Rates legislation

 

  • Make referrals to visiting officers for void cases, exemptions and discounts as necessary

You must have the following experience:

 

  • Relevant and recent experience in a Local Taxation or Debt Collection environment.
  • Knowledge of Local Taxation and/or a large-scale billing computer system
  • Knowledge of local taxation legislation

 

You must have the following qualification:

 

  • Qualifications at level 2 or equivalent in English and Maths 2
