Outside of London, Birmingham is the UK’s most diverse city and has the largest number of young people in its city than any of its European counterparts. Birmingham is on a journey of significant change, ready to reset, reshape and restart. To do this well we recognise that we need to strengthen our permanent arrangements across fundamental functions by increasing internal expertise and capacity.
Birmingham’s Children and Families Directorate are recruiting a series of posts to expand the Strategy, Governance and Planning service. This is truly an exciting opportunity to showcase your skills, knowledge, and experience to facilitate meaningful change for the children, young people, and families of Birmingham.
Our team ethos is centred on appreciation for individuality and individual contribution and expertise and the value of this to the team’s collective success and ability to sustain positive outcomes. We strive to ensure that our working environment is inclusive, supportive, and empowering.
About the role
The Birmingham Children and Young People’s Partnership is a collaboration between Birmingham City Council, Birmingham Children’s Trust, Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care Board, West Midlands Police & Crime Commissioner, West Midlands Police, the Birmingham Voluntary Services Council, and wider services across Birmingham. Whilst the role is positioned to coordinate the delivery of the work of the Partnership, it is a permanent Birmingham City Council post.
The Partnership works together as one, with a set of shared priorities. The Partnership is committed to working with families and communities, and improving outcomes for babies, children, and young people across Birmingham. The work of the Partnership is underpinned by the Change for Children Plan 2023-2028 and associated programmes of work. We are also proud to have joined the UNICEF Child Friendly Cities and Communities programme, committing to put the rights of children and young people at the heart of our Partnership planning and service delivery.

As the Partnerships and Programmes Manager, you will be working with colleagues from across the Partnership and play a key role in the coordination of the work of the Partnership. You will oversee the day-to-day management of planning and delivery, building and sustaining collaborative relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. You will report directly to the Head of Strategic Governance, Planning and Improvement, the Partnership Lead.
You will be a skilled project and programme manager and confident negotiator, with knowledge and experience of working with multi-agency partnerships, within the children, young people, and/or adult services system. An excellent communicator with proven experience of leading, motivating and influencing teams, you will enjoy partnerships and be adept at building and sustaining relationships across professional teams.
