Job Details
Firstly, many thanks for your interest in joining us as Election and Democratic Services Manager. The borough of Nuneaton and Bedworth is undergoing an exciting period of transformation, and we are looking for a new Election and Democratic Services Manager to lead our election and democratic services function with support from the senior leadership team.
Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and North Warwickshire Borough Council recognises the importance of its election and democratic service functions and the positive impacts this has for both Borough’s and many of its partners. Democracy is vital for the Borough to ensure the constituents have the opportunity to have their say and participating in local government decision making and politics. This exciting and fulfilling opportunity for an enthusiastic and capable Electoral and Democratic Services Manager will be leading a dynamic, innovative and capable team in managing the delivery of electoral and democratic services in an ambitious region of Warwickshire.

We are currently recruiting for an Election and Democratic Services Manager to manage and deliver of high quality and effective elections, electoral registration service, committee and democratic service in line with relevant legislation, for Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and North Warwickshire Borough Council. The requirements, expected skills and experience is outlined below.
- To proactively promote democratic involvement and voter participation by developing and implementing the electoral registration and elections public awareness strategy and measures aimed at increasing registration levels, turnout at elections.
- To ensure both Councils at least meet and wherever possible exceed the Electoral Commission Performance Standards for the Electoral Registration Officer and Returning Officer through effective leadership, project planning and risk assessments to ensure there are consistently well-run electoral registration and elections services.
- To manage the committee and democratic procedures working with the team, Chief Executive, Strategic Directors, Assistant Directors, Monitoring Officer (and Deputy where applicable), and departments (where applicable) to ensure a democratic process is undertaken and provide support and advice accordingly.
- To monitor and review the performance of external suppliers of services to election, electoral registration, committee and democratic services.

- Extensive experience of all aspects of Electoral Services including elections and electoral registration
- Experience of Committee and Democratic services
- Hold the AEA certificate and someone who wants to step into Democratic Services and a Deputy Monitoring Officer role.
- Excellent organisational skills
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written and interpersonal and influencing skills
- Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines for prolonged periods with the ability to organise prioritise and take responsibility for a demanding and diverse workload.
- Ability to assimilate detailed information and understand, interpret and implement complex legal procedures and regulations.
