We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our small professional team of Highway Safety Inspectors who are committed to keeping Walsall’s highway network safe for road users.
This is an exciting opportunity for you to work as part of Walsall Council’s broader Highways Maintenance team who are based at the Environmental Services Depot, Pelsall Road, Brownhills.
Our Highway Maintenance Management Plan is one of a suite of documents that that set out our integrated approach for delivering planned, routine and reactive maintenance services across Walsall’s highway network. Included in this suite of documents is our Highway Safety Inspection Manual which provides more detailed information about road hierarchy, inspection frequencies and investigatory levels.
Walsall Council manages a highway network of 525 miles and its condition is routinely monitored through a proactive and structured regime of:
- Highway Condition Surveys
- Scheduled Highway Safety Inspections
- Ad-hoc interim and reactive inspections
Your role will be to assist the Highway Asset Manager, Principal and Senior
Engineers, and the Senior Highway Safety Inspector in carrying out both planned and ad-hoc highway safety inspections, placing works orders for reactive highway repairs to the Council’s term highway maintenance contractor, record keeping, and responding to complaints and enquiries from the public and elected members.
The post is Graded G8 (SCP 26 to 31) £36,124 to £40,476 and plays a key role in helping the Council comply with its obligations and statutory duty under the Highway Act to provide a highway network that is safe and accessible to all.
