Full Time – 37 hours a week

About the role

 

Rugby Borough Council is looking to recruit an experienced and versatile lawyer to the role of Legal & Governance Manager. You will have overall responsibility for the management of the Legal Services team as well as undertaking the Deputy Monitoring Officer role.

 

You’ll be supporting the Chief Officer of Legal & Governance, acting as an advisor and working in collaboration with other services and senior management to ensure that services are joined up appropriately, and are aligned to the achievement of the Council’s aims and objectives.

 

You’ll provide comprehensive legal advice to the Council and undertake the legal representation at Council, Cabinet, committees, Member meetings, working groups, task and finish groups, panels, and third party/stakeholder meetings.

 

This is a varied, impactful and interesting role that will put you at the heart of the Council as an integral part of our organisation.

 

About you
 

You will need to hold a Professional Legal Qualification such as a Solicitor, Barrister or FCILEX with extensive post-qualification legal experience.

 

You’ll need excellent people management skills with a demonstrated ability to motivate, lead and develop a small team.

 

While not necessarily needing Local Government / Public Sector experience you will need knowledge of Local Government law related to our functions such as procurement, committee procedures and codes of conduct.
