We are seeking an outstanding Learning Mentor to join our dedicated and supportive team.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about making a difference in children’s lives and helping them overcome barriers to learning.  Our school has high ambitions for our children and community, and we are looking for someone who can nurture and inspire pupils to reach their full potential.  The successful candidate will join a team of learning mentors, supporting the ongoing nurture and development of the pupils at Slade.

The role will involve working with individual pupils, or smaller groups of pupils, and focus on supporting them to achieve their learning goals.  The role will involve working with pupils who experience social, emotional and/or behavioural barriers to learning and benefit from one-to-one support to reach their full academic potential.

Specifically, the role will entail:

  • Assessing the needs of pupils and using knowledge and specialist skills to support pupils’ learning by helping them to overcome barriers to learning both inside and outside the classroom
  • Helping raise and maintain the standards of achievement and improve attendance and behaviour
  • Establishing productive mentoring relationships with pupils, acting as a role model, and setting high expectations
  • Promotion the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
  • Encouraging pupils to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all pupils in activities
  • Ensuring pupils have access to an ambitious, broad, and balanced curriculum.
  • Promoting pupil independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement and self-reliance
  • Securing positive family support and involvement through regular contact
  • Supporting the role of parents in pupils’ learning
