New to Birmingham Officer

Permanent

Grade 3 - £26,409-£32,654.  Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity review  

Working 36.5 hours per week.

The role is hybrid however the post holder would be required to work from Birmingham City Council buildings as business needs dictate.

Are you passionate about supporting children and families who are new to the city? Birmingham City Council is seeking dedicated individuals to join our Children and Families Directorate as New to Birmingham Officers. In this vital role, you will work directly with schools and multi-agency partners to ensure that new arrivals are identified and supported. If you have a strong background in casework, excellent interpersonal skills, and a commitment to safeguarding, we want to hear from you!

As a New to Birmingham Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that children new to the city are enrolled in school and attending regularly. You will liaise with schools, social workers, and other partners to address any concerns and provide advice and guidance on the educational status of individual pupils. Your responsibilities will include confirming data with schools, producing reports, and assisting with home visits to engage with families. Your efforts will help improve educational outcomes and ensure the well-being of children in our community.

We are looking for candidates with at least five GCSEs or equivalent experience, and a background in schools, youth services, social care, or local authority services. You should have experience working within statutory timescales, using computerised systems, and handling large amounts of data. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as you will be producing professional documents and liaising with a wide range of stakeholders. The ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines is also key for this role.
