The Arthur Terry Learning Partnership (ATLP) is a thriving multi-academy trust of 24 schools and one teaching school, serving Birmingham, Coventry, North Warwickshire, and Staffordshire. With over 10,000 students and 1,500+ staff, we are committed to delivering high-quality education and ensuring the best outcomes for young people.

 

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Trustee to help shape our strategy, governance, and financial oversight whilst making a meaningful impact on our schools and communities.

 

Governance Structure

 

The ATLP Board of Trustees holds overall legal responsibility for the trust and its schools, ensuring strategic leadership, compliance, and accountability.

 

To maintain effective oversight, Trustees work closely with the Executive Leadership Team, Local School Governance Representatives (School Advocates and Trust-Wide. This structure ensures strong local engagement while maintaining a cohesive trust-wide strategy.

 

Your Role as a Trustee

 

As a Trustee, you will play a key strategic role in the leadership and governance of the ATLP. Working collaboratively with other Board members, you will ensure the trust’s success, sustainability, and accountability by focusing on the following key areas:

 

Strategic Leadership & Governance

 

Define and uphold ATLP’s vision, values, and long-term strategy.

 

Provide independent and objective oversight to support school improvement.

 

Ensure ATLP operates within legal and regulatory requirements.

 

Undertake mandatory training and continuous development to strengthen governance effectiveness.

 

Financial Oversight & Risk Management

 

Ensure robust financial planning, budgeting, and sustainability.

 

Review and approve financial statements, expenditure, and audits.

 

Assess and mitigate risks related to finances, operations, and trust reputation.

 

Oversee internal controls to protect the trust’s assets and funds.

 

Educational Excellence & Performance Monitoring

 

Support and challenge the Executive Leadership Team and school leaders to maintain and improve educational standards.

 

Monitor school performance, pupil outcomes, and curriculum development.

 

Encourage a culture of high expectations and accountability across all schools.

 

Contribute to trust-wide policies on education quality, safeguarding, and inclusion.

 

Stakeholder Engagement & Advocacy

 

Foster strong relationships with parents, teachers, students, and the local community.

 

Attend school visits and events to gain firsthand insight into the trust’s culture and priorities.

 

Act as an ambassador for ATLP, representing the trust at external events.

 

Engage with School Advocates to ensure informed decision-making at board level.

 

Time Commitment

 

Approximately one day per month, including board meetings, preparation, and school visits.

Finance & Audit – Accounting, financial planning, risk management.

 

Education & EdTech – School leadership, digital learning strategies.

 

HR & Leadership – People management, appraisal processes.

 

Estates & Sustainability – Property management, environmental strategy.

 

Project & Programme Management – Implementing and overseeing initiatives.
