Dudley MBC's Housing Asset Management & Development Team ensure DMBC's housing assets remain a safe suitable place to live while maintaining compliance with all statutory regulations. Sitting within the Housing Asset Management & Development Team is the Fire Team focusing on the building safety of high risk residential buildings.
The Role
Fire & Building Safety Officer
Hours: 37 per week
Salary: Grade 9 (£37.938.00 - £40.476.00)
The position of fire and Building Safety Officer
As a Fire and Building Safety Officer you will join the growing Fire Team within Dudley MBC's Housing Asset Management & Development department. You will work closely with the incumbent Fire and Building Safety Officers ensuring the ongoing Fire & Building safety of 1329 communal residential buildings along with assisting wider DMBC departments with fire safety advice and support.
You will have a responsibility for a number of high rise and buildings, you will carry out monthly and quarterly building and fire door inspections. You will manage and review ongoing fire risk assessments raising remedial actions to be completed by internal DMBC teams and external contractors ensuring all works are completed to the highest standards and suitably certified.
As a Fire and Building Safety Officer you will be proactive in reviewing your allocated buildings to ensure the fire and building safety of both the building and the associated safety systems including but not limited to: compartmentation, fire door sets, deluge systems, AOV, fire detection systems, smoke detection, emergency lighting, fire escape routes, wet/dry risers, fire extinguishers etc.
Supporting and advising DMBC wider teams and residents on fire and building safety, fire policies and processes is an essential and key part of this role along with reviewing building fire polices and strategies to ensure they remain current an relevant.
Candidates for this role will ideally have:
- In depth knowledge of fire and building safety
- A working knowledge of firefighting equipment and associated services
- A background in working on or within the social housing sector
- Knowledge of M&E services
- Working knowledge of fire doors and compartmentation principles
- Project / contractor management experience
- IT skills including the use of excel, word, bespoke IT solutions for reporting and certification
