Foster Carer (Self Employed)
Foster Carer (Self Employed)
Coventry City Council is currently recruiting foster carers to help care for Coventry children.
Coventry City Council needs more foster carers for a range of fostering opportunities, including short break placements (sometimes called respite) which may be for weekends or for week long breaks, more longer term placements (from a few weeks or months or sometimes a long-term placement is agreed until a child reaches adulthood) and more specialist and intensive foster carers such as offering parent and child placements or placements for teenagers who have particular challenges in their life (see our separate advert for our ‘Everest Fostering Scheme’. These types of placements involve additional support, training and higher payments in recognition of the additional skills and commitment required
The type of fostering you could provide depends on you, your lifestyle and the needs of your own family. You don’t need any fostering experience but need to be able to offer a stable, positive home with a spare room- you can live in rented, owned or social housing, can be gay or straight, single, living with partner or married. We welcome applications from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds and with different life experiences. You don’t need to have your own children but it can also be a great way to use your parenting skills in a different role.
As a Coventry City Council Foster Carer, you would care for a child, or children in your own home, creating a positive home environment for them and undertaking the ‘usual’ parenting and care appropriate to each child such as taking them to school, contact with family, visiting friends as well as attending a number of meetings and advocating for the child where needed. As a foster carer, you join us as a crucial part of Coventry’s ‘Team around the Child’ and work alongside the child’s social worker and other professionals involved to assess the child’s support needs and to plan for the long-term future of the child, helping them develop and reach their potential.
Skills we would need you to demonstrate include:
- Sensitivity and Discretion
- 24-hour commitment
In return we offer you:
Your own allocated social worker
Access to 24 hour local support
A quality, locally delivered, training package, training alongside Social Workers as part of Coventry’s ‘Team around the Child’ approach
Opportunities to help influence service development, improving services for Coventry children and foster carers
Generous payments and allowances (Our fostering fees and allowances can range between £15,390 to £50,387 depending on number and types of placements made)
A thriving social and community network of local carers
