We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced ICT Applications Engineer to join our professional ICT Shared Services team, based at the Civic Centre in Pershore.

The ICT Shared Service team provide ICT development and support to over 800 staff across South Worcestershire.   We provide ICT services to Malvern Hills District Council, Worcester City Council, Wychavon District Council, and their partners.

ICT Applications Engineer (Web Development)

Full Time – 37 hours per week - Temporary for 12 months, with the possibility of becoming permanent

Up to £33,437 per annum (Subject to experience/skills/ability)

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our friendly web and self-service development team on a full time basis. You will play a key role within our large ICT Shared Service and will be part of a professional and motivated development and support team. You will be required to develop web based self-service software solutions. You may be required to help mentor others within your team and work together on larger projects.

Key Duties:

  • Development of web based self-service applications
  • Development of websites based on Liferay portal
  • Support of Liferay portal
  • Development in MySQL for self-service applications
  • Integration of self-service applications with existing back office systems and databases.
  • Integration of self-service applications with third-party systems.

This is a busy role, which will require excellent organisation, great communication skills and a flexible approach. We are looking for someone with the credibility to quickly establish themselves in the role.

You will have experience of developing and supporting business applications, ideally in a local government environment. With a good analytical mind and strong communication skills you will be able to understand customer requirements and resolve issues efficiently.

You will need to have relevant and appropriate experience, and be able to work with people at all levels of an organisation. It is essential that you have skills and experience in supporting business applications, ideally within a local government environment.

Ideally, you will also have skills and experience in web software development using some of the following:

  • Java
  • Java application servers (Glassfish, Tomcat etc.)
  • HTML(5), XML
  • REST or SOAP web services
  • Web application security
  • CSS and frameworks (Bootstrap or foundation a bonus)
  • JavaScript and JavaScript libraries (JQuery etc.)
  • Responsive web design
  • Content management systems (CMS)
  • MySQL
  • Version control (Git) or Subversion (SVN)
  • Use or knowledge of Linux
  • Worked in or experience of an agile environment
