Salary - Grade I/J £26,822 to £33,437 (dependent on qualifications and experience)

We serve approximately 108,000 residents at South Staffordshire Council.

Over 80% of the District lies within the Green Belt with a variety of large villages down to smaller hamlets, all with their own distinct identity.  We have four Strategic Employment Sites which have attracted the likes of JLR and Moog and there are proposals to extend these employment sites at ROF Featherstone and i54 South Staffordshire.  In addition there is a rich historic legacy with 19 Conservation Areas, over 850 listed buildings/heritage assets and 13 historic parklands.  It is therefore a diverse District with plenty of opportunities.  The District is located in close proximity to the West Midlands Conurbation.

South Staffordshire is a District Council within Staffordshire approximately four miles from the centre of Wolverhampton, with great transport links including close proximity to two railway stations with direct connections to Wolverhampton and Birmingham or Telford through to Shrewsbury.

We currently have an opportunity for a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual to undertake the role of Accountant.

This role would suit an Accountant/Assistant Accountant looking for a new opportunity, or a part-qualified Accountant looking to achieve full financial qualification.  Reporting directly to the Senior Accountant, you’ll be part of a dedicated and highly capable team that provides a wide range of accounting and financial management services.

You will have accounting and financial management experience, which should be complimented by sound technical knowledge, together with an AAT or similar qualification & membership.  In particular, you will have experience of the preparation of budgets, budget monitoring and final accounts in a large organisation.

We are looking for someone who is committed to continual improvement, is able to use initiative and who will ensure that service objectives and priorities are achieved.

The post offers an excellent opportunity for an innovative individual to undertake a broad and varied range of accountancy and other related work, making the most of their sound financial and management accounting skills and contribute to the development of the Service.

The salary will be reflective of current qualifications and experience.  Part time hours will be considered.

Test - Please note the interview will include a test based on analysing and interpreting financial information including the setting up of a spreadsheet, which will last for 30 minutes before the interview takes place. 

First Pay Date – Please note if a successful candidate/s starts with the Council between the 1st to the 5th of a calendar month the first salary payment will be paid on the 20th of that calendar month.  If a successful candidate starts from the 6th to 31st in a calendar month they will be paid on the 20th of the following calendar month.
