On-Call Firefighter Expression of Interest
We have 27 Fire stations across the 2 counties of Herefordshire and Worcestershire. All stations have an on-call fire engine, which is crewed by a dedicated team of women and men who work and/or live in their local communities and respond to emergency calls during contracted hours.
We have an exciting opportunity for you as an on-call firefighter where you can earn £4,000 to £8,000 a year, sometimes more.
We offer a range of contracts with cover starting from as little as 40 hours up to 120 hours a week (ie the number of hours you are available to be on-call throughout the week), with flexibility and paid annual holidays built in.
You will need to attend a weekly training session, usually held on a weekday evening at your local fire station. (Please note you will be asked to confirm that you are available to attend this when submitting an expression of interest form to us).
More information can be found about our fire stations, including when weekly training sessions are held, by visiting our website at www.hwfire.org.uk
Full training, uniform and personal development is provided and there are many opportunities to gain additional skills and qualifications that will be of use outside the fire service.
You must be aged 18 or over and work or live within five minutes of one of our fire stations.
You need to be able to safely reach the fire station within 5 minutes of being alerted. If you are in any doubt, it may be useful to check an online route finder as a guide although you can discuss this with the Station Commander.
We ask for an average level of fitness and strength and will provide full support in helping you understand and achieve what this means.
Please consider whether you are prepared to work at height, work in enclosed spaces or work in highly stressful situations, helping people in distress and administering first aid.
We are always looking to recruit enthusiastic applicants from all walks of life. The most important qualifications are common sense, compassion, commitment, discretion and teamwork.
