Coventry Virtual School (formerly LACES) is seeking to recruit a suitably experienced teacher to develop its work with looked after children placed both in Coventry and out of City. Experience in teaching Secondary aged pupils and especially Key Stage 4 would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will have considerable experience working with disadvantaged children. preferably including looked after children and knowledge about securing post 16 provision.

Coventry’s virtual school is part of the Education, Libraries & Adult Learning Directorate.

The virtual school enables the local authority to do ‘all that a good parent would do’ to raise achievement and promote inclusion of looked after children, by encouraging and supporting their educational, social and emotional development. The virtual school uses a collaborative and multi-agency approach focussed around the child. It has effective relationships with Designated Teachers, Social Care staff and other professionals whose work impacts on the well-being and progress of looked after children. The advisory teachers takes responsibility for one or more Key Stages and monitors the progress of the pupils in that cohort. They intervene with advice, support and challenge whenever any aspect of education is at risk.
