Principal Asset Engineer
Fixed Term Contract for 3 years
The Highways and Infrastructure directorate seeks a talented engineer for the new position in the Highways Services Team. This role is pivotal in the successful development and implementation of our robust highway asset management regime. It will assist in delivering the Council’s agenda for the effective management of the highway related assets and services within the City’s street scene.
With a demonstration of working in an engineering and/or asset management role covering works and coordination, you will be required to:
- Provide professional advice on infrastructural assets managed within the Highways Service;
- Assist in the development, review and implementation of policies and strategies for the Highway Asset Management Plan with an in-depth and up-to-date working knowledge of current developments and national requirements;
- Develop bespoke maintenance processes and regimes for various highway assets whilst ensuring compliance with the Highway Authority’s statutory obligations;
- Undertake management on adhoc maintenance schemes in accordance with the Council’s contractual and financial management processes.
The role requires an experienced professional with excellent communication, management and influencing skills supported by a strong technical knowledge and drive. It is necessary that you are familiar with the principles of long term asset management requirements for all or most of the asset types within highways. You will be engaged in a strategic function and will have the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with other council’s services including the key service providers, contractors, business partners and other service users with the aim of improving efficiency and outcomes whilst supporting the Council’s policies, aspirations and direction of travel.
