St Matthias is a good school where staff know students well. Leaders work hard to ensure that everyone feels part of the school’s diverse community. Students feel happy and safe at school. This is because leaders have created an environment where students are well supported and cared for. Leaders expect students to try hard in school. They do not tolerate disruption in lessons or at social times. In lessons students are polite and respectful of their teachers. Everyone gets access to a good-quality curriculum. Specific Year Leader responsibilities include:

 

• Creating a distinctive ethos and sense of belonging for the year group.

• Ensure students’ successes are regularly acknowledged and celebrated.

• Regularly reviewing the Behaviour for Learning data and taking the appropriate actions.

• Weekly Year Team meetings to review the role of the Form Tutors and to follow up any issues and take necessary actions.

• Promoting attendance and punctuality by working alongside the Attendance Officer to monitor student attendance and punctuality.

• Sharing data with line manger to take appropriate action with individual students who are underperforming in a subject(s) or with groups of underperforming students.

• Broker solutions with colleagues to support individual students with interventions from Form Tutors, Teachers and Subject Leaders to address causes of concern in lessons and to reduce the negative impact on the learning of others.

• Liaise with all stakeholders to develop whole school procedures, to share good practice and to monitor the Behaviour for Learning Consistent Approach.

• Always leading by example, maintaining a positive and visible presence in key areas throughout the school day.
