Procurement Services are seeking to recruit a Category Manager who is looking for a challenge. You will be an enthusiastic individual who enjoys leading a variety of clients on procurement activity. Your role will involve category management as part of a team who support (to name but a few) areas such as waste services, Highways, traffic and transportation, City Centre development, ICT, Human Resources, fleet. The team play a key role in major projects that support the redevelopment/transformation of the City so experience on NEC/JCT Contract forms would be an advantage but not essential. Working to the Strategic Category Lead (Place and Corporate Services), you will lead on the management and development of a range of sub category strategies that support business activity across the Council, as well as delivering an ever increasing expansive range of Major Projects. You will recommend appropriate procurement routes to market, let and manage contracts and seek innovation in service delivery, all within the public sector legal framework as well as take responsibility for contract management within your categories. You will also look for collaboration opportunities across the public sector.

You will also assist in the development of the procurement service, strategy and policy, and deputise as appropriate for the Strategic Category Lead (Place and Corporate Services).

You’ll need:
(MCIPS qualified, an in-depth knowledge of public sector procurement practice together with experience of managing staff in project teams in a fast-changing environment. Strong persuading and influencing skills in addition to excellent project management skills will help you to deliver the required outcomes in a challenging yet exciting financial climate.

Your comprehensive knowledge of procurement law, e-procurement tools and techniques, together with your highly developed negotiation skills, will be matched by excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a high dose of enthusiasm.
